The lamp of light and time capsule – featuring a miner’s lamp, which lights up through fibre optic cables, tokens – a symbol of safety and piece of coal. The time capsule contains a letter to committee members family which they will read in 2073 once the case is open. A wealth of memories and momentos will be revealed to ensure the part everyone played in the creation of this memorial can be once again shared with the world.

The Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire unveiled the new entrance plinth which now holds the date of the official opening ceremony of the National Miners’ Memorial. He acknowledged the new bench for people to take quiet reflection and remembrance.
