Limited Edition of Print No. 20– Tunnellers

In WW1 in response to German troops digging tunnels to attack British trenches, specialist units were formed consisting of thousands of enlisted miners.  They dug tunnels by hand beneath enemy lines to lay explosives which were then detonated. Here a soldier is using a metal rod to listen for enemy activity.

The bronze plaque was sponsored by Drury Adams Ltd.
