Limited Edition of Print No. 11 – Tubs

Tubs were wooden or iron vessels that carried coal to the surface of the mine. In early drift mines where coal seams were close to the surface, tubs would have been pulled straight out of the mine manually. Mines with shafts used winding engines to bring the tubs to the pit top.

The bronze plaque was sponsored by Norton Canes Parish Council.
