Contact UsLimited Edition of Print No. 14 – Bevin Boys
In 1943 the government ruled that one in ten men conscripted in WW2 would be chosen to work in the mines. Known as “Bevin Boys” after the creator of the scheme, Ernest Bevin, many of the 48,000 men resented being sent down the pit. It was not until 2007 that they were officially recognised with a medal.
Andy DeComyn showed the men wearing Great Coats to depict men at war.
The bronze plaque was sponsored by Mrs J. Bancroft.
