Limited Edition of Print No. 6 – Pit Ponies
At their peak in 1913, 70,000 ponies worked in mines. Although initially more expensive than women and children, they were more productive and necessary as coal mining became a massive enterprise. After working a shift, the pit ponies were stabled in the pit bottom and were looked after by an Ostler
Bronze plaque No. 6 was sponsored by Fred & Sarah Pritchard.
